    History Intent Statement

At St Mark’s Primary School, we aim to inspire children’s curiosity to know more about the past and how the past has influenced the present. Our intent is to ensure that all children are able to apply their knowledge to different contexts to understand the connections between local, regional, national and international history. We encourage learners to understand how to think like a historian, use evidence to make historical claims, think critically and analytically, and understand why people have different opinions or viewpoints. Throughout our journey at St Mark’s the children will understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change and the diversity of societies and beliefs whilst celebrating these differences. This is delivered through the children having a conceptual understanding of key historical concepts such as: continuity and change, cause and consequence, similarity and differences and historical significance.

Here at St Mark's we love to bring our children's learning to life!
Year 6 - Year 6 have had an exciting visit from the History Man for an unforgettable World War II workshop! The children were taken back in time as they explored real wartime artefacts and discovered what life was like during the 1940s. From rationing and air raids to evacuees and wartime roles, the day was packed with hands-on learning and fascinating stories. This was a fantastic opportunity to bring history to life and deepen the children's understanding of this important period!

    Year 3 -

Year 3 stepped back in time during an exciting history workshop all about the early Britons. The children explored chronology by ordering key periods in British prehistory, dressed up as early Britons, and brought history to life through role play. They

examined fascinating artefacts, explored archaeology boxes, and listened to engaging stories from the era. It was a fun and hands-on way to deepen their understanding of life in ancient Britain!
