Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Intent Statement

Welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) at St Mark’s CE Primary School. Our Early Years provision starts at Nursery and progresses through to Reception. At St. Mark’s, our Nursery class is on a different site and is located at the Thomas Boughey Children’s Centre. Despite the split site, we ensure the children are familiar with the main site and the staff in our Reception classes by completing transition visits every week during their final half term in Nursery.

At St Mark’s CE Primary School, the EYFS curriculum is planned to encourage happy, independent, and inquisitive learners. We recognise the children’s prior learning and various starting points and have created a curriculum that is fun, safe, purposeful and engaging. We use the Learning Challenge Curriculum to plan and use a series of weekly questions to guide our learning and will centre activities around a book that links to the weekly question.

Every child in Early Years is recognised as a unique individual and we strive to ensure they are provided with high quality experiences and opportunities to help them to grow and develop a love for learning.
