In English, the children were introduced to our new river topic through a hands-on and creative activity. Using natural materials such as stones, twigs, leaves and sand, they worked collaboratively to design and build their own river models. This practical task helped them to visualise how a river begins at the source, winds through the landscape in meanders, and eventually reaches the mouth.
As they created their models, the children explored and used key vocabulary confidently, discussing each stage of a river’s journey. The activity provided an engaging introduction to the topic and supported their understanding.
